NHS England and NHS Improvement – East of England have been alerted to an issue whereby a patient has been subjected to fraud. 

The patient was contacted over the phone by a person purporting to be a GP working at their local GP practice and that for a fee, the GP could attend their home to administer their flu jab. Unfortunately the patient gave out their bank account details and has sadly suffered a financial loss.

“If someone claiming to be from the NHS contacts you by phone and asks for a payment, please be aware they could be a criminal trying to trick you. Most NHS services are free at the point of use and NHS professionals are very unlikely to ask for fees such as prescription charges by phone. We advise you not to share bank account details or other financial information unless you are sure of who you are talking to.”

We would ask that you continue to be vigilant.

Some Patients have been asking about the changes to ordering of prescriptions over the phone. Due to regulation changes GP Practices are no longer taking repeat prescriptions over the phone.

There are approved exceptions to the changes for certain groups that can still request repeat prescriptions over the phone and need to be approved by the local Practice for these to take effect. These groups are

  • Patients who are housebound who cannot order on line, or do not have a carer or representative that can order on their behalf

  • Patients using a Monitored Dosage System

  • Patients who have a learning disability who do not have a carer or representative who can order on their behalf 

  • Patients who have dementia who do not have a carer or representative who can order on their behalf

We are pleased to announce that Great Staughton is moving towards joining Octagon. We have held the first Patient engagement meeting and a PPG meeting and look forward to welcoming them onboard shortly.

We are pleased to announce that Trinity Practice in Wisbech and Cornerstone Practice in March are moving towards joining Octagon. The first Patients engagement meetings have taken place and we look forward to welcoming them onboard shortly.

We are pleased to announce that Clarkson Surgery in Wisbech and Priory Fields Practice in Huntingdon will be working towards joining Octagon shortly, we are holding Patient engagement meetings in the coming weeks and details will be sent to respective Practice patients and publicised on the websites.

We were delighted to host and attend the recent Patient engagement meetings at Bretton and Thomas Walker as part of our merger engagement. Further meetings are being held over the next fortnight and details can be found on the respective Practice websites.

We are pleased to announce that the Thomas Walker Practice will be joining Octagon. We will be holding a Patient Participation meeting in November and will be writing to Patients with details of this shortly.

10th October 2018

On wednesday 10th October, Octagon held its first all branch PPG (Patient Participation Group). Whilst each branch will retain its own PPG, we felt it important to meet asd a group and discuss new initiatives and share best Practice. The Group received a presentation on E-Consult, an online consultation service which Octagon is trialling as part of the NHS commitment to digital technology.

Following the appointment of Dr Amanda McSorley who will be based at our Thorney and Eye Branches, we will be introducing an ENT clinic for our Patients starting in the New Year. Further details will be posted in due course.
