For Thorney patients:

For Eye patients:

We are not closed.

However, the way you access services at the moment has changed.

In light of the Covid-19 outbreak, and in line with NHS England guidance, we have moved to a ‘total triage’ model.  Total triage aims to reduce avoidable footfall through our surgeries and protect both our patients and staff from the risk of Covid-19 infection.

It is important patients continue to seek medical attention when required.

If you need an appointment please contact us in the usual ways either by phoning reception or online using doctorlink.  Phone 01733 270219 for Thorney and 01733 222282 for Eye.  A clinician will then contact you by phone to triage your needs and discuss the most appropriate way of providing advice or care.  It may be that your problem can be fully managed over the phone, or by video call, but if you and the clinician agree a face to face consultation is needed you will be offered an appropriate appointment for this in a Covid-19 safe way.

If you are offered a face to face appointment it is important you attend the surgery at the time advised by the clinician and wear a face covering (unless under 11 years of age or exempt). A member of staff will be available at the window to direct you and answer any questions you have.

Please do not come to either of our surgeries unless you have been asked to attend.

Repeat prescriptions

You can order your repeat medication online at a time that suits you using Systmonline.  Your details and information are protected by the highest standards of online security.  Please follow the link below:

Alternatively, you can order your repeat medication using the white repeat order slip that is attached to your green prescription each time you order your medicines. Please mark clearly on the sheet which items you require.

Please allow two working days before visiting the pharmacy to collect your medicine.

If you need to order your prescriptions early, or request a longer period than normal e.g. you are going on holiday for several weeks, could you please make the request early and give the practice as much information about why you need the prescription early or for longer, then the practice will do its utmost to accommodate your request.

The reception staff then have to ask a doctor to review each request so the more information and time we have about the unusual request the better. Or if you are in any doubt - please telephone us to make the request.

City Care Centre blood tests

In light of the Covid-19 outbreak, since September 2020, the City Care Centre are no longer accepting walk-in blood tests.  However, a blood test may still be arranged by appointment between 8am and 5pm.  Please ask a member of our reception team who can book an appointment at the City Care Centre for you.

  • Please contact your branch to find out more about the flu clinics they are running.
  • Please see our 'Useful Contacts' page for more NHS services and other providers

DVLA Fitness To Drive Statements

During the Covid-19 pandemic,  many drivers' licences have expired. The DVLA initially gave extensions so that drivers could continue to drive.  However, for many drivers, this extension is coming to an end. Some drivers are now being told by the DVLA to ask their GP if they are “fit to drive” so that they can continue to drive under Section 88 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 (RTA 1988).

GP’s are not qualified, trained or indemnified to advise patients whether or not they are fit to drive.   Nor is such work covered by the NHS Clinical Negligence Scheme for General Practice, as this is not NHS work.

Please do not ask the practice to provide a letter stating whether or not you are fit to drive.

In some circumstances the practice may be able to provide a report for the DVLA to assist their own expert medical advisers in deciding upon fitness.  This would be a simple, factual report detailing any specific medical condition you may have but would not offer any opinion about your fitness to drive.  As this is not NHS work, a private fee would be chargeable for this service.

Any queries relating to this should be directed to Helen King at Octagon @ Thorney in the first instance.

Thankyou for your understanding in this matter.
